Mayor and Mayoress attend Summer Scheme opening
Thursday 14th August 2008 11:39 AM
Monday 11th August
The Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale gave us the honour of opening the first day of our Summer Scheme. The scheme runs for two weeks during school holidays and over the years has become very popular with the children and young people who attend.
40 young people will enjoy some fantastic venues this year. It is all down to the hard work and commitment of Sue (Outreach Manager) Carol (Outreach Co-ordinator) and of course the scheme would not be possible if we did not have the excellent staff to support these young people.
Visits to the Film & Photography Museum, Cliffe Castle, Ten Pin Bowling and some well know Parks were on the agenda for the first days outings. Although the scheme's base is Ravenscliffe High School, all activities will take place off base. Great fun will be had by all over the two weeks and other places included in the itinerary are Diggerland, Camelot, Lightwater Valley and Sealife at Blackpool.
Many thanks to BBC Children in Need who very kindly provided funding for the transport to these great venues.

Great News Three Star rating for Gibraltar Road
Tuesday 13th May 2008 11:36 AM
Recently a local newspaper, the Halifax Evening Courier covered some of the areas Care home standards. Gibraltar Road Nursing Home was 1 of only 4 nursing homes to receive 3 Stars (an excellent rating) from the Commision for Social Care Inspection.
It is great to have recognition in this way for the service provided and this is all down to the superb commitment of staff who continue to look for ways of improving on excellence.
Whilst not covered in the newspaper article, you maybe interested to know that our two Residential Homes Mayfield House and Ferncliffe have also gained 3 Star excellent ratings in recent inspections.

Summer Scheme
Wednesday 7th May 2008 11:17 AM
Sue and Carol of our Outreach service are very busy at the moment organising this years Summer Scheme. Some fantastic venues are in store for the children and young people who will be participating this year. Visits to Digger Land, Gullivers World and Sea life in Blackpool, are just a few of the exciting trips taking place and of course there will be some of the old favourites which everyone enjoys. Not only have destinations to be carefully chosen based on young peoples choices and value for money; transport, staff training, grouping, information given to parents and carers have all to be arranged. As always, Carol says "it's all worth it just to see all those happy smiling faces".
A big thank you to BBC Children in Need, Excellence Cluster and Rodger Blackmore for their kind generosity and support which has allowed us to run the 2008 Scheme.

Walking Club
Tuesday 29th April 2008 7:43 AM
A new walking club for people we support at Mayfield House, Ferncliffe and Gibraltar Road completed its 3rd walk yesterday. They had a great day at Lytham St Anne's, Lancashire to follow their previous walks around Bolton Abbey and Grassington.
The group are planning a walk every two weeks, initially for a 3 month period, but it looks as though this popular activity will continue throughout the summer months.
Should anyone supported by the Mayfield Trust be interested in joining this group please contact Gibraltar Road on 01422 352418.
If you would like information about how to receive an Outreach Service from us, please contact Sue or Carol on 01422 322552
