Gibraltar Road is registered to provide nursing care for 10 adults with learning disabilities. There is the main house building offering 8 single bedrooms; two have on suite facilities. Furthermore, there is a generously sized 2 bed self-contained bungalow as an extension to the property; this is generally managed independently from the main service having a theme of supported living, although remaining registered nursing care. The home has easy access for people with physical disabilities throughout including a lift to support transfers between floors. The garden area at the rear of the house has a greenhouse for cultivating vegetables/flowers, as well as a patio that provides a large comfortable safe seating area. The bungalow has its own separate garden with a decked seating area that can be accessed through the patio doors or drive way.
Independently from the main service having a theme of supported living, although remaining registered nursing care.
The service offers accommodation for people diagnosed with a learning disability from the age of 18; there is no upper age limit and male or female accommodation is available. All people referred to the service, and any subsequent placement offer will be determined following a holistic assessment and our ability to meet the person’s needs. It is also essential that those already residing within the service and the person referred are compatible; staged introductions, phased transition and choice are important within shared services.
Gibraltar Road Nursing Home has achieved an award in the Gold Standards Framework.
The home is able to offer services to people with physical disabilities, or secondary neurological conditions including mental illness / disorders, brain injury and dementia. Nurse support is available 24 hours a day enabling high quality clinical intervention for people having multiple and complex needs; the service is equipped with a hydraulic bath, tracking and mobile hoists, multi-position beds and air flow mattresses. The service prides itself on supporting people with communication difficulties and behaviours that challenge; interventions range from behaviour analysis, intense interaction methods and positive behaviour support interventions. Additionally, Gibraltar Road Nursing Home has achieved an award in the Gold Standards Framework for palliative care ‘helping people to live well until the end of life’.
