Who We Are

Calderdale has been our home since 1952, that’s 71 years’ helping people live life to the full.  We were the first charity in Calderdale to offer this support, and we are motivated by those we support. We create an open and caring environment based on promoting choice, independence, person centred care and experiences.

We are a person led provider. Our work helps people plan their own experiences! 

We do not believe in a one size fits all model of care; our staff are trained using unique, responsive methods for each person ‘in house’.

The Mayfield Trust have aligned with the ‘Timian’ PBS (positive behaviour support) training standards. All employees have BILD (British institute of learning disabilities) and the ‘restraint reduction network’ accredited training. We believe this commitment serves our values, those we employ and those we support. 

Our ‘Timian’ trainer provides IST (intensive support team) observational visits and advise with interventions, individual approaches, building confidence and emotional resilience, person centred care planning and aspirational future planning. 

 OUR VALUES

  • These words underpin ‘what we do’ and ‘how we do it’ the experience of working with kindness is ‘why we do it’. If we work with kindness, people will ‘experience’ kindness, and kindness is contagious. We must also recognise that Health and Social Care presents wider moral, ethical, and legal deliberations; caring with kindness demonstrates compassion, inclusion, and best interest.

  • Supporting experiences asks us to hold an open and non-subjective view on what is important for each individual; we all have a purpose. Purpose is what motivates us, but making time for our purpose is a compromise for most. People with learning disabilities often experience an ‘assumed purpose’ by well-meaning carers who may ultimately get things wrong. Supporting experiences ‘individually’ is truly person centred, improving motivation, self-esteem, wellbeing, and quality of life.

  • We work in a caring profession; if we do not do this creatively, how do we do it? Be creative, think, act, listen and respond, speak up, share experience, work together, and help things happen for ‘this person at this time’. 

  • Health & Social care is an ever-evolving provision; life does not stand still, nor do standards, opportunities, or expectations. Human nature evolves to survive; yet it remains instinctive within all of us to fear change. In life, we ‘don’t’ know what we ‘don’t know’, this is how we learn and develop, each time we learn, we can accept another point of view; maybe this point of view is less painful than your own “jump in the water is beautiful”.
